Alexandre Yevgenievich Jacovleff (1887-1938) was a Russian neoclassicist painter, draughtsman, designer, and etcher. Born in Saint Petersburg, he studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts under Ilya Repin and later in Paris under Maurice Denis. Jacovleff's early works were influenced by Russian folk art, but he soon developed a more classical style inspired by Greek mythology and ancient Egyptian art. He was known for his illustrations of books such as The Golden Ass by Apuleius and The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky. During the Russian Revolution, Jacovleff moved to Paris and continued his career as an artist, exhibiting his works in Europe and the United States. He also designed stage sets and costumes for Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. Jacovleff's works can be found in collections at the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg, the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
