OUTHWAITE, Ida Rentoul.

First Edition.

Collection of six post cards in mint condition illustrated by Ida Rentoul Outhwaite, housed in their original envelope, as issued.

The publication of "Elves and Fairies" in 1916 was the pinnacle of Ida Rentoul Outhwaite's artistic career and won her national and international acclaim. Outhwaite became the queen of fairyland, exhibiting her paintings and publishing a wonderful canon of enchanting titles throughout her life.

'Then, smiling, we see bright flowerlike faces beckoning and nodding and dear soft fluttery wings, quivering with life and reflecting the rays from the moon and stars, while drifting gossamer garments, made of the same stuff as the rainbows, shimmer tremulously as the Fairies themselves float out, softly but confidently, to fill those places in our hearts where only they can reign.'
[Mansfield, Mary. An Appreciation of the Work of Ida Rentoul Outhwaite, Anthony Hordern's Gallery, Sydney, 1917.].
