Portfolio of photographs of Chinese puppet theatre masks. Jia Zhou Jang (1871 - 1954), a famous puppet sculptor, was born in Huaguotou Village of the Huanshan Township in Quanzhou City, Fujian Province, a region celebrated for its mastery of the form. A large port, Quanzhou lies at the start of the Silk Road, from where its woodcarvings have travelled throughout the world. Documented since the Song Dynasty (1127 - 1279), the puppet theatre of Quanzhou is a highly respected folk art form.
