"The Adventures of Hans Christian Andersen" illustrated by Hans Tegner, Professor at the Danish Academy of Fine Arts and artistic director from 1907 to 1932 of the internationally acclaimed porcelain factory, Bing & Grondahl. Tegner was reknowned for his work depicting these fairy tales.

A most remarkable edition of Hans Christian Andersen's fantasy tales adorned by the Danish artist Hans Tegner (1853-1932).

This edition is noteworthy for its bizarre and fabulous steel-engraved illustrations, from curious ornaments scattered throughout the text to astonishing full-page plates. Tegner's images range from eclectic and humorous vignettes to downright menacing and macabre depictions of the supernatural. These include breathtaking full-page plates featuring a grinning reaper, trolls plundering a graveyard and a skeletal werewolf crouched over the body of a sleeping man.
The two volumes are well preserved in the original richly tooled leather binding; they include a biographical sketch of Hans Andersen accompanied by a handsome engraved portrait.
