AUNT HANNAH

Some Adventures in the Life of a Cockatoo

New York, R. Shugg and Co., 1872

Pamphlet, original illustrated wrappers, 173mm x 260mm, 4 pages; a very good copy.

Very rare American-published story about Cockie, a mischevous and loquacious sulphur-crested cockatoo. The author describes Cockie's life in the Melbourne suburb of Collingwood following his voyage across the Pacific to his new home in America where Cockie scandalises the household maid and local clergyman with his outrageous commentary. Published as part of the Cinderella series, under the Juvenile Classics banner of the Rutherford Park Press, this scarce and ephemeral children's title is not recorded by Muir and not held by any of the major libraries in the United States, although there is a copy in the National Library of Australia.
